Czech operators consider network sharing

Czech operators Vodafone, O2 and T-Mobile are reportedly planning to share networks for 2G, 3G and LTE services.

O2 has revealed today that an advisor will prepare an analysis on the value of implementing the plans.

There is an increasing trend across Europe for network sharing, with carriers across the industry looking to cut the cost of implementing and maintaining high-capacity mobile networks that are required to accommodate high-bandwidth services, such as video streaming.

“The analysis will be prepared by an independent external advisor, using data and information provided by the operators,” O2 Czech’s majority investor Petr Kellner said in a regulatory filing. “The operators will be deciding individually whether they will continue participating in the project after the conclusion of the analysis.”
