Global Cloud Xchange (GCX) – formerly known as Reliance Globalcom – is to deploy a new direct route between Mumbai in India and Singapore. The route is designed to bypass outage-prone terrestrial routes between Mumbai and Chennai. It will comprise a four-fibre-pair system with 100G technology. [read more]

Telenor Global Services (TGS) and Vodafone Carrier Services have announced an interconnection agreement for IPX and LTE/4G peering. The partnership is designed to accommodate the increasing number of mobile operators using next-generation IP communications services, and TGS said its multi-service IPX network is designed to provide its mobile subscribers with international roaming capabilities. Alcatel-Lucent has signed a partnership with EBlink which aims to tap into the potential of the mobile startup’s wireless fronthaul solution. Wireless fronthaul is said to represent a major technological advance for base station deployment, eliminating the last few hundred metres of fibre that are so costly for operators. [read more]

Fibre-optic provider Angola Cables has signed a collaboration agreement with internet exchange DE-CIX to establish the foundations for a neutral interconnection environment between Angola and southern Africa. Angola presently hosts a landing site for the WACS cable, and the African landing site for the South Atlantic Cable System (SACS), with Angola Cables managing the country's participation on both projects. China Unicom is to invest approximately $387 million (HK$3 billion) in an ICT facility in Hong Kong. The Chinese company hopes the Global Centre will enhance the network services of the Chinese operator, as well as help the company expand its international business. [read more]

Interoute has announced the launch of a virtual data centre (VDC) zone in New York, as the company attempts to expand its cloud services globally. The European operator will utilise its VDC zones in London and New York to enable Interoute's IaaS platform customers to benefit from a globally distributed cloud platform at low latency. Telstra Global has extended its cloud infrastructure services to the US. The node, which will be located on the east coast of the US, is said to strengthen the company's virtual private cloud solution. [read more]



Tata Communications has launched the latest version of its unified communications platform, jamvee. The upgrade is said to offer enhanced levels of interconnectivity and interoperability over a tier-1 global network. [read more]

Japanese operator KDDI has selected Epsilon to deliver local-access networks in Singapore and Hong Kong. KDDI will utilise Epsilon's eConnect solution to simplify connecting enterprise locations by aggregating multiple local networks into a single complete solution. [read more]

The European Union and South Korea have entered into an agreement to work to together on the development of 5G standards and technology. The two parties will collaborate to develop systems, set standards and ensure global interoperability through the harmonisation of spectrum bands. [read more]
