Thailand suspends 4G licence auction

Thailand’s telecoms regulator has suspended a 4G mobile licence auction following a request from the country’s army council.

Thailand is now under military rule, and the suspension is a bid to boost transparency, according to the National Broadcasting and Telecoms Commission (NBTC).

The country was planning to auction 25MHz bandwidth of 1800MHz spectrum in August and 17.5MHz of 900MHz spectrum by the end of the year.

There are now concerns from the largest players in Thailand over when the auction will take place, with shares in Thailand’s largest mobile operator AIS dropping by 3% after the announcement.
