Zayo Group has expanded its existing contract with UK operator TalkTalk to include additional network services. The new contract includes 10G wavelengths within the UK and across Europe, an increase in IP transit service speeds from 30G to 50G, and 10G transatlantic services from London to New York. Intelsat has revealed details of the news and sports programmers using its global satellite services and terrestrial network to televise the 2014 World Cup, which started yesterday in Brazil. Intelsat's global satellite fleet will support contribution services within Brazil and distribution of the "World Feed" to the Americas. [read more]

SEACOM has announced a partnership with content delivery company CDNetworks to deploy content clusters and caching nodes on its pan-African IP network in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. The nodes are designed to accelerate and optimise HTTP content, rich media, downloadable files, video music, software updates and other web content requested by operators and ISPs that is accessible through SEACOM's IP network. UK-based Vodafone is planning to increase the roll-out of its LTE network to five more cities in the country later this year. The carrier is looking to extend coverage across the south of the UK, with cities including Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Reading, Southampton and Basingstoke targeted for the expansion. [read more]

FiberLight has expanded its rural connectivity across the US state of Texas. The company is said to have deployed nearly 5,500 route miles across the state, connecting over 600 cell towers. It will go on to connect new data centres - including Fibertown in Bryan - to its DASH (Dallas, Austin, San Antonio and Houston) network this month. [read more]

Viatel has signed reseller agreements with European internet exchanges DE-CIX, France-IX and the London Internet Exchange (LINX). This move will allows ISPs to connect to the internet Exchanges across Europe through Viatel's network, which includes over 120 PoPs and an 8,500km network across the continent. [read more]

Wholesale bandwidth provider TransIndonesia Network has partnered with solutions provider Coriant to extend and upgrade sections of its network in Indonesia. TransIndonesia Network will use Coriant's 7090 packet transport platform to extend its multiservice capabilities, as well as support efficient and scalable Ethernet aggregation in the access management section of its network. Telecom Italia (TI) Sparkle has today announced a partnership with Dolphin Telecom for the extension of its global IP backbone in West Africa. The Italian operator will utilise its newly established IP PoP in Accra, Ghana, to deliver cost-effective, high-quality and secure global connectivity solutions to operators, ISPs and service providers connected to the city via major international cable systems. China Telecom has selected Gemalto as one of its suppliers for its mobile contactless services suite. Gemalto's UpTeq multi-tenant near field communications (NFC) SIM is embedded within the company's LTE management software, enabling China Telecom subscribers to access NFC services through mobile broadband.
