Zain and Nokia complete live network demo successfully

Saudi Arabia-based Zain KSA and Finnish equipment vendor Nokia have successfully demonstrated the vendor’s Liquid Application solution on the operator’s live network.

The companies reported that the trial demonstrated an improved throughput and more efficient transmission between the base station and core network.

The solution is said to allow the Saudi Arabian operator to drive location-based service innovation and introduce new services very quickly to increase its revenue and market share, especially in 4G.

Nokia’s Liquid Application solution is designed to bring applications, services and content to base stations to allow local storage, along with access to real-time radio and network information.

“Our Liquid Applications provides truly innovative, localised and personalised mobile broadband services while increasing network performance,” said Samer Qablawi, head of Zain KSA customer team at Nokia. “The operator can create new revenue models outside the traditional telecommunications areas and reduce operating costs at the same time.”

Nokia carried out the network planning and optimisation, system integration and network implementation for the trial.

“In response to our customers’ demand for the best mobile broadband experience, we never stop optimising our network, and we believe Nokia’s Liquid Applications is one of the unique solutions that can offer entirely new service experiences,” said Sultan AlDeghaither, senior director of network engineering at Zain KSA.

This week, Nokia launched a security unit designed to develop the company's telco security and serve as a central office for security processes, partnerships and guidance for product development.
