AT&T aiming to reduce credit card fraud with new service

AT&T is set to launch a new service which allows businesses to access the operator’s network data to confirm a customer’s location.

The location information services capability, which builds on AT&T’s mobile identity API toolkit launched in December last year, is designed to help businesses make financial and mobile transactions safer for AT&T customers.

AT&T announced in a statement that the service can be used to help reduce fraud by allowing customers to confirm their location with credit card and other payments companies.

The service helps credit card companies make more informed decisions, such as whether to approve cross-border purchases.

Run through an application program interface, the service notifies companies when their customers arrive in a new country, ensuring that when they are not travelling abroad, overseas credit card transactions are blocked.

AT&T expects to make the service available to enterprise customers by the end of this year and hopes to expand it to approximately 150 countries.
