Ericsson selects region heads

Swedish vendor Ericsson has appointed heads of three regions, as part of its strategy to strengthen its position as a global player.

The new region heads will also become members of Ericsson’s global leadership team and the company hopes their appointments will accelerate transformation and growth in their respective regions.

Rafiah Ibrahim has been appointed head of Ericsson’s Middle East region, Sam Saba will take on the role as head of the south east Asia and Oceania regions, and Charlotta Sund will head up the northern Europe and central Asia regions.

"Rafiah, Sam and Charlotta all bring different and market-relevant competence and experience to our team and their respective regions,” said Hans Vestberg, president and CEO at Ericsson. “But above all, they have shown that they are leaders with strong commercial drive and they have relevant knowledge of the respective markets.”

All three are previous Ericsson employees and Vestberg added that the appointments strengthen the company’s diversity with the addition of two women as region heads.

Ibrahim has spent 18 years of her 30-year career in telecoms at Ericsson, and leaves her position as head of marketing broadcast services for the new role.

Saba, who holds an existing role at Ericsson as head of customer unit Indonesia, has spent 20 years at the company and has previously worked in Australia, New Zealand and Fiji.

Sund holds 25 years of telecoms experience and has held positions such as head of multimedia and systems integration for Ericsson’s Nordic and Baltic unit.

Sund’s appointment became effective as of June 1, while Rafiah and Saba will both take on their new roles from July 1 2014.

Ericsson has been making a number of managerial changes and appointed Rima Qureshi as CSO in April this year .
