NTT Com launches cloud services leveraging SDN and NFV

NTT Com has launched what it claims to be the industry’s first cloud-based network services that can be instantly activated online.

The services will leverage SDN and NFV platforms on a global scale, and are designed to accelerate service delivery and reduce costs of enterprise networking. Offered via a pay-per-use model, the services are also said to eliminate traditional long-term contract commitments.

“While many industry experts and service providers have long been speaking about the potential of NFV, we are excited to become the first service providers to commercialise NFV-enabled services on a global scale,” said Takashi Ooi, VP of enterprise network service, NTT Com.

The services are powered by Virtela Technology Services, following NTT’s $525 million acquisition of the cloud service provider in January.

The services also expand on NTT Com’s enterprise network services, Arcstar Universal One, which is said to reach more than 190 countries worldwide.

The new services will become officially available in July 2014.
