Bouygues and Ericsson to launch VoLTE services in France

Bouygues Telecom has partnered with Ericsson for the launch of VoLTE services in France.

The deal will see the Swedish vendor complete the IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) network integration in its multi-vendor environment.

Ericsson is expected to provide a solution for VoLTE including the Ericsson Multimedia Telephony Application Server, Ericsson Session Border Gateway, Ericsson Home Subscriber Server and Ericsson User Profile Gateway.

The move is designed to allow the French operator to offer HD voice services and shorter call set-up times for 4G users. The carrier has also announced that it expects to provide enriched IP-based communication services such as video calling over LTE.

“Bouygues Telecom is proving the capabilities of its 4G/LTE network to support the latest advanced technologies and services,” said Jean-Paul Arzel, head of the networks division at Bouygues Telecom. “Commercial service roll-out is scheduled for 2015 and our network will be carrying the first voice and video calls over LTE later this year."

Financial terms for the contract have not been revealed.

The news follows reports last week that Orange and Bouygues are looking at options to merge after calls from the French government for further consolidation in the market.
