The TAT-14 Atlantic Seacable system is said to have been disrupted by a problem caused by a software route change, causing outages of cloud services, including Dropbox and sites using CloudFlare.
"Upstream networking issues are causing connectivity issues in Eastern Europe which is affecting multiple US and EU PoPs," CloudFlare announced yesterday on Twitter. "One of our upstreams (Telia) appears to have a transatlantic cable cut. We're routing around in many EU locations now."
Hosting provider Digital Ocean also suffered network outages in its AMS1 and AMS2 data centres.
"Preliminary investigation indicates that the Telia Transatlantic cable is down," Digital Ocean announced.
TeliaSonera said that the issue was fixed by 2300 yesterday.
In operation since 2011, the cable links the UK, France, the Netherlands, Germany and Denmark with the US through multiple 10Gbs direct-access interfaces.
In 2011, TeliaSonera became the biggest stakeholder in the TAT-14 upgrade, increasing its stake by 67%
