Telekom Austria Group and América Móvil have announced a wholesale partnership for the creation of a large scale fibre network. The two companies will interconnect their networks to offer voice, roaming, data and mobile solution services, over what they claim will be one of the world's largest fibre networks. [read more]

Hibernia Networks has selected vendor Ciena’s advanced optical solutions to upgrade its platform; starting with the operator’s transatlantic system. Hibernia will deploy Ciena's GeoMesh submarine solution to lay the foundations for an OPn network architecture to enable Hibernia to scale and react to changing transatlantic traffic patterns. DE-CIX’s New York exchange has revealed an expansion into two of Telx’s six New York data centres; NYC1 and NYC2. DE-CIX launched its New York exchange late last year, which will now offer ISPs, carriers and other Telx customers additional network management opportunities by expanding peering to multinational enterprises and increasing options for the low-latency transfer of data. TI Sparkle has announced the launch of two new PoPs – in Brazil and Panama – as part of its plans to expand its global IP backbone footprint in the region. The move will see the carrier launch operations in Fortaleza, northern Brazil, and in Panama City, in an effort to improve the company's global backbone capillarity and enhance the performance of its Seabone global IP transit service. Telefónica Global Solutions (TGS) has announced the launch of its Global Solutions’ IPX Suite, a comprehensive catalogue of services of IPX capabilities. The suite of IPX products is designed to help customers migrate from IP to IPX in a seamless and secure fashion, addressing all interconnection needs. [read more]

Hutchison Global Communications (HGC) has signed a series of partnerships, including an MoU with Ooredoo Global Services (OGS). The MoU with OGS, the wholesale arm of Qatari operator Ooredoo, will see the two operators extend co-operation in areas such as global capacity, infrastructure and data services. HGC has also signed IPX agreements with both Taiwan's Chunghwa and Japan's NTT Communications. Announced at a signing ceremony at ITW in Chicago, the partnerships with Chunghwa and NTT Communications are designed to establish multiservice IPX peering connections. [read more]

Interconnection and data centre company Equinix and Ethernet service provider tw telecom have partnered to offer a combination of cloud, network and data centre services, designed to provide customers the ability to quickly deploy flexible cloud solutions. The deal will see tw telecom provide customers with direct access to multiple cloud services and providers on the newly launched Equinix Cloud Exchange in nearly 40 Equinix data centres across the US. Russia’s state-owned operator Rostelecom has reportedly acquired infrastructure in the Crimea region, including telecoms equipment and fibre-optic networks with a total length of 2,000 km. The assets were acquired from Ukrainian operators Datagroup, Atracom and a third unspecified operator, in a deal that is estimated at around $30 million, according to local sources. [read more]
