Tata, Huawei and Huawei Marine complete 400G subsea trial

Tata Communications, Chinese vendor Huawei and submarine cable network provider Huawei Marine have today announced the successful completion of a 400G field trial on a 6,000km subsea network.

Claimed to be a milestone for the industry, the trial demonstrated an optical transmission of 400G signals using technology from both Huawei and Huawei Marine.

“The 400G technology of Huawei and Huawei Marine demonstrates that our existing subsea network asset is capable of supporting future next-generation transmission technology, as shown in the 400G trial,” said Hon Kit Lam, VP of international transmission and IP business at Tata Communications. “Tata Communications constantly assesses new technology to expand our capabilities and to enhance our ability to support traffic growth demand from our customers.”

Jack Wang, president of Huawei's transmission network product line, said that its 400G technology is designed to help operators manage larger levels of traffic, faster – as well as optimise operating and network maintenance costs.

“It really is exciting to have managed such a technical feat and to have been part of the successful 400G trial on the existing submarine cable system,” added Sigurd Zhang, VP of technology at Huawei.

“Huawei Marine focuses on developing state-of-the-art technology that supports our customers’ on-going requirements to maintain leadership and fully utilize the existing infrastructure system,” Zhang added.

In March this year, Huawei Marine completed an upgrade on Telkom Indonesia’s PT Telekom 3rd route submarine cable system.
