Taiwan NCC permits 4G launches

Taiwan’s National Communication Commission (NCC) has given three companies in the country permission to launch commercial 4G services.

Chunghwa Telecom, Taiwan Mobile and Far EasTone secured spectrum in the country’s auction last year, and have now been permitted to launch commercial 4G services this year, according to local reports.

Chunghwa Telecom signed an agreement with NSN for its LTE roll-out in December 2013, and Rick Tsai, CEO at the company, said that it is aiming to launch services in July this year and cover at least 40% of Taiwan with the service by the year-end.

“Our key goal for this year is focussed on business development, with an emphasis on the 4G, enterprise revenue and fibre segments,” Tsai said.

NSN was also vendor of choice for Taiwan Mobile, which partnered with the company for its 4G roll-out and also expects a July launch.

“Taiwan Mobile aims to lead the 4G market, with the highest network coverage rate, the fastest connection speed and the most stable service,” said James Cheng, president at Taiwan Mobile.

Far EasTone selected Ericsson for its LTE roll-out last month.
