Spotify and Sprint launch music streaming partnership

Spotify has signed an agreement with Sprint to offer its music streaming services as part of a package to the US operator’s mobile customers.

The partnership builds on similar agreements Spotify has in Europe with Deutsche Telekom and KPN.

The move highlights the growing number of partnerships between telcos and music streaming services, with Sprint’s US rival AT&T also signing a deal with rival music service Beats Music in January.

Daniel Ek, CEO at Spotify, said that the agreement is “the biggest deal" the company has ever made.

As well as tapping into Sprint’s subscribers, Spotify expects to increase its customer numbers by benefiting from Sprint’s marketing.

"Given Sprint's national footprint, it will bring awareness of Spotify, especially in middle America, to a new high," said Ek.

At the same time, Sprint also launched a version of HTC’S One M8 handset featuring high-definition audio technology, which is expected to go on sale in early May in the US.

In March this year, Sprint announced that it had expanded its LTE network to 20 new markets, raising the operator’s total number of LTE markets to 402.
