Verizon and Netflix sign streaming deal

Verizon has signed a deal with OTT content provider Netflix for the delivery of direct connectivity from Netflix to Verizon’s broadband customers.

The deal was confirmed on Monday and closely follows the deal signed between Netflix and Comcast in February this year.

“We have reached an interconnect arrangement with Verizon that we hope will improve performance for our joint customers over the coming months,” Netflix said in a statement.

The deal is expected to enhance the speed and quality of Verizon’s streaming content to subscribers and comes after a long dispute between Netflix and Comcast over pricing for such a connection.

Market watchers have since raised concerns that agreements like these between OTT players and ISPs may be a setback to net neutrality.
