MegaFon completes Scartel integration

Russian telco MegaFon has confirmed that the integration into of LTE service provider Scartel – which it acquired in October last year in a $1.2 billion deal – has been completed.

Operating under the Yota brand, Scartel delivers high-speed 4G mobile broadband services in Russia, and the merger is expected to allow MegaFon to further enhance its position in this segment.

The integration includes the transfer of all processes of support and service of the Scartel network to MegaFon, and the two companies signed an agreement on the lease of the communications network.

"We combined the networks of two operators in the interest of subscribers," said Anna Serebryanikova, director of legal affairs at MegaFon. "MegaFon subscribers got access to higher-quality mobile internet at 4G speeds and Scartel will be able to develop new services due to the powerful infrastructure of the converged networks.”

At the same time, MegaFon announced that it has appointed Anatoly Smorgonsky as general director of Scartel, replacing Oleg Knyazev.
