Ericsson and Maygar Telekom trial LTE-A technology

Swedish vendor Ericsson has announced that it has demonstrated LTE-A carrier aggregation technology in partnership with Hungarian operator Magyar Telekom.

The trial was completed using the 1800MHz and 2600MHz spectrum bands at Magyar Telekom’s headquarters, and according to the vendor, is the first time this has been achieved in Hungary.

“We believe that 4G/LTE technology and its next generations are the key elements of the digital development of Europe and of Hungary,” said Chris Mattheisen, CEO of Magyar Telekom.

LTE-A technology increases data speeds and network capacity on networks and Maygar expects the demonstration to lead to the launch of a more advanced mobile network in Hungary.

"Using LTE-Advanced technology, operators can increase their network capacity and enhance the mobile broadband user experience, enabling up to 1Gbps data rates in the future,” said Valter D'Avino, head of region for western & central Europe at Ericsson.

Last week, Ericsson split its networks unit into two separate entities – business unit Radio and business unit Cloud & IP – following reports that it missed its Q1 sales and profits targets.
