Tata Communications has expanded its global data centre footprint by establishing presences in four new markets. The company has signed agreements with NEXTDC in Australia, Interxion in Germany and Austria, and Pacific Link Telecom in Malaysia. According to Tata, the agreements will enable the company to extend its data centre offerings in the regions and deliver a unified customer experience across the geographies it operates in. [read more]

Alcatel-Lucent has been selected by Finnish operator Elisa to upgrade the company’s network towards developing next-generation IP/MPLS capabilities. The move is designed to meet consumer demand for broadband capacity, in a market with one of the highest penetration and customer-usage rates in the world. [read more]

Israeli mobile operator Cellcom has selected Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) for the build-out of its 4G network. NSN will immediately begin the deployment of the network, which will also be ready for LTE-A, and wide deployment of the service is expected by the end of the year. [read more]

TalkTalk, Sky and CityFibre have revealed plans for a joint venture that will deliver ultra-fast broadband services across York in the UK. The move aims to provide a more cost-effective approach to building a pure fibre network, independent from BT Openreach’s infrastructure. The joint venture will deploy a fibre-to-the-premise (FTTP) network that aims to deliver broadband speeds of 1Gbps to tens of thousands of homes and businesses in York. [read more]

Chinese vendor Huawei and South Korean operator LG Uplus have announced a partnership to deploy WDM/OTN technology for Common Public Radio Interface (CPRI) backhaul on the mobile provider’s LTE-A network. The solution enables pooled baseband processing for distributed base stations, saving fibre resources and improving network reliability. [read more]

Pacnet is supporting Amazon Web Services (AWS) Direct Connect with hybrid cloud computing deployments. The move will allow customers to leverage Pacnet's network and data centre infrastructure to establish dedicated private network connections to build and manage hybrid cloud computing deployments.[read more]

Service provider PCCW Global has signed an agreement with Telecom Namibia for MPLS interconnection in the country. The deal will enhance the Namibian incumbent's international network coverage, and is expected to benefit the service offerings of both companies. [read more]



 

Bharti Airtel has announced that its Chadian subsidiary has been awarded 3G and 4G licences by the country’s government. The latest announcement extends the Indian telco's 3G footprint to 16 countries, and extends its African footprint to 17. [read more]

French operator Orange has launched an international partnership programme – Orange Alliance. The alliance is designed to help operators worldwide to stimulate growth and address challenges in their markets, using Orange's market experience and best practices. Orange will offer tailored solutions and support to operators and access to its portfolio of products and services, including international roaming. [read more]
