Bezeq International has announced the launch of a PoP in Hong Kong for its global customers, as part of its expansion plans into East Asia. Bezeq claims to be the first Israeli telecoms operator to hold a physical presence in East Asia, and has chosen to open the PoP in Hong Kong as it seeks to improve data communication between the region and Israel. [read more]

Cambodian mobile operator Beeline has announced plans to launch 4G services in the country's capital city, Phnom Penh, by the end of the year. The chairman of Beeline's parent company Sotelco, Huot Vanthan, said that he hopes the launch of LTE services will increase Beeline's share in the wireless market. [read more]

The Jordanian government has revealed that one of the country's mobile operators has applied for 4G spectrum. The company, which has so far not been named, has submitted an official request for spectrum, which would make it the first to roll out 4G services in the country. [read more]

Telefónica has entered into a partnership to provide Wifi via satellite to Spanish low-cost carrier Vueling Airlines. According to the agreement, Telefónica will install satellite terminals to four of the airline's Airbus A320s. [read more]

Mid-Atlantic Broadband Communities (MBC) has completed a successful trial of multi-terabit capacity on its existing network in southern Virginia, US. The trial was conducted with Infinera's DTN-X platform using 500Gbps super-channels, and is expected to facilitate the expansion of bandwidth for data centre operators and cloud providers. Swiss-based YooMee Africa has announced that it is preparing for the launch of a TD-LTE network in Côte d’Ivoire. The launch marks the mobile broadband provider's entrance into the country, and is part of YooMee's strategy to expand across the West African region. [read more]

Taiwanese operator Far EasTone has signed an agreement with Swedish vendor Ericsson for the roll-out of a nationwide LTE network in Taiwan. Ericsson will stand as Far EasTone's major LTE supplier for the deployment, delivering a multi-access RAN and core network for both 3G and 4G services. [read more]



 

French vendor Alcatel-Lucent has partnered with the Ontario Research and Innovation Optical Network (ORION) for 400G optical network trials. The trial is said to be the fastest optical data rate on a live research network in North America. [read more]

Level 3 Communications has announced the launch of Video Cloud Services, based on moving, storing and delivering broadcast and internet video globally. The cloud service is designed to combine Level 3's content delivery, video broadcast and cloud storage capabilities to create a more scalable, secure and streamlined approach to global content distribution.
