Bezeq announces PoP launch in Hong Kong

Bezeq International has announced the launch of a PoP in Hong Kong for its global customers, as part of its expansion plans into East Asia.

Bezeq claims to be the first Israeli telecoms operator to hold a physical presence in East Asia, and has chosen to open the PoP in Hong Kong as it seeks to improve data communication between the region and Israel.

The company has established its footprint at the Equinix data centre, located in the financial hub of Hong Kong, and connects to over 50 network providers.

“Establishing a new PoP in East Asia, which is connected to BI’s global network, allows us to offer our customers international connectivity to the region and an internet connection based on a direct connection, with low latency and improved performance,” said Nissan Arie, VP of global business at Bezeq International.

Prior to the network expansion, Bezeq said traffic between Israel and East Asia came via interconnection PoPs in Europe. The PoP is also designed to decrease latency to the region by over 50%, while assisting global organisations to manage and utilise data traffic to locations in Hong Kong, India, China and Singapore.

Bezeq has outlined plans to expand its international presence, and still claims to be the only Israeli company to own a subsea cable in Europe.
