Slim looking for new Telekom Austria CFO as Tschuden departs

Telekom Austria's Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Hans Tschuden, is to leave the company at the end of May.

No explanation was given as to why his contract – which was due to end in March 2017 – ended early, but it is thought that América Móvil owner Carlos Slim will now seek a successor.

Slim’s América Móvil is the second-largest shareholder in the company, and rumours persist that the Latin American operator will make a bid to acquire the company’s remaining shares from the Austrian government at some point this year.

A company insider who did not wish to be named told Reuters that América Móvil “probably wanted their own man or woman. Tschuden does not allow himself to be dictated to by others – he’s no puppet”.

Tschuden has a reputation for being an outspoken member of the company, and has held the CFO post since 2007, when the company expanded into Yugoslavia and Belarus.

Chairman Rudolf Kemler was complimentary of Tschuden’s role in the company’s growth during his tenure as CFO.

“I thank Hans Tschuden for his years-long contribution as finance chief of the Telekom Austria group and especially for his excellent chaperoning of the company’s growth phase,” he said.
