Chinese MVNO to launch in May

Chinese online retailer JD.com is set to launch MVNO services in May under the brand name JD Mobile.

JD.com was one of the eleven companies to win MVNO licences in China in January this year, and serves as one of the largest B2C providers in the country.

The company, which trades in electronic equipment, is trialling the service and has not announced which network operator’s infrastructure it will be using.

It will reportedly link the MVNO service with its core online shopping business, using data analytics to market retail offers to its mobile customers.

Last month, Chinese internet company Tencent announced that it would acquire a 15% stake in JD.com in a $215 million deal.
