Level 3 Communications has announced the construction of a new subsea cable, designed to connect Colombia to the company’s international network. The terrestrial segment of the cable in Colombia is being constructed in partnership with EMCALI (Empresas Municipales de Cali) – a state-owned utilities services company in Cali, Colombia – and the infrastructure is intended to improve communications access to and from the country. Internet exchange platform the Southeast Network Access Point (SNAP) has announced that it is now offering connections to Amazon Web Services’ (AWS) capabilities in northern Virginia. SNAP will utilise its location within Colo Atl’s Atlanta facility, granting customers with access to AWS cloud services through a private enterprise-grade network connection, which it claims can bypass the public internet. Cable operator Liberty Global has partnered with Axiros for device management services. Under the three-year contract, Germany-based Axiros will remotely provision and manage Liberty Global's customer premise equipment (CPE) across a new B2B VoIP service. [read more]

Taiwan Mobile has selected Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) to expand its 4G LTE network. Taiwan Mobile is using the 700MHz spectrum band, which is said to provide high-quality coverage indoors and in rural areas. Somali carrier Glocall Telecoms is set to become the first carrier to provide LTE coverage in the country. Glocall has announced that it will partner with Tazca Connects to deploy an LTE network in the capital city, Mogadishu. [read more]

Network optimisation firm JDSU has partnered with Belgian operator Belgacom to improve 2G, 3G and 4G networks across the country. Belgacom will deploy US-based JDSU’s optimisation solution, the ariesoGEO platform, across its network. [read more]

Chinese technology company ChinaCache has struck an MoU with Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) to incorporate CDN technologies and innovations into the company’s network. The partnership will enable content to be delivered directly from the LTE base station, resulting in faster data transfer, in addition to providing what NSN claims is a superior customer experience. The move is said to strengthen the company’s global backbone and upholds its commitment to providing reliable connectivity anywhere in the world. [read more]

Network connectivity provider Global Capacity has announced that it has expanded its network reach to the UK. The move enables customers of the One Marketplace solution to leverage Global Capacity’s PoPs and core network to gain access to the high-growth UK market. [read more]

US operator Sprint has expanded its LTE network to 20 new markets, raising the operator’s total LTE markets to 402. At the same time, Sprint announced that its Spark service has launched in two new markets: Provo, Utah and Trenton, New Jersey. [read more]
