The fees imposed payable to Swisscom for access to its network by rival companies will continue to be based on the costs incurred during construction of a new network. However, the rules now take new technology developments into consideration.
“Until now the costs for accessing the last mile were based on a copper network and traditional switching equipment. Today, an operator would not construct a new copper network, but would instead lay optical fibre,” Bakom said in a statement.
The revised rules will come into force in July this year and will be phased in over a period of three years.
According to Bakom, the new rules are expected to reduce the regulated access prices among telecom providers.
