Outremer Telecom selects Alcatel-Lucent for 4G access networks

Outremer Telecom has signed an agreement with Alcatel-Lucent for the deployment of a 4G LTE access network for islands in the French West Indies and the Indian Ocean.

Paris-based Outremer Telecom is part of France’s Altice group, and the project with Alcatel-Lucent will see the deployment of a 4G LTE ultra-broadband access network in French Guiana, Martinique and Guadeloupe, as well as in the Indian Ocean islands of Reunion and Mayotte.

The project is designed to enhance competition and meet the bandwidth demands of residents and businesses on these islands.

“The Outremer regions where we operate are extremely competitive markets for telecoms services and we have always been faced with the challenge of offering our customers the same quality of experience that they have in other parts of the world, whether it be for voice or data,” said Jean-Michel Hegesippe, chairman and CEO at Outremer Telecom.

“Today we are going even further, thanks to the solutions provided by Alcatel-Lucent, to offer advanced services to meet new usages, notably in wireless, which requires ultra-broadband access while maintaining competitive pricing for our customers,” he added.

Alcatel-Lucent will deploy its 4G overlay solution, designed to deliver fast roll-out and high performance without compromise, as well as a number of professional services such as network planning, pre-launch optimisation and network integration.

“By deploying our 4G LTE overlay solution, Outremer telecom will be able to quickly offer residential and business customers, as well as those visiting these territories, an ultra-broadband experience in all the areas its serves will impeccable performance,” said Michel Combes, CEO at Alcatel-Lucent.

In February this year, Alcatel-Lucent partnered with Caribbean operator LIME to upgrade its network in the region to an all-IP architecture.
