GloBul selects Huawei for upgrade

Cosmo Bulgaria (GloBul) has reportedly signed an agreement with Chinese vendor Huawei for the Bulgarian cellco’s network upgrade in the country.

GloBul is embarking on a nationwide upgrade of its services and Huawei will advance GloBul’s 2G and 3G systems, as well as replace its core and backbone transport networks.

Huawei is also expected to provide a number of managed services for the operator and Stein-Erik Vellan, CEO at GloBul, also expects the upgrade to prepare GloBul for the launch of 4G.

“In partnership with Huawei and their advanced technology and expertise, we will be able to build a reliable, high-capacity, 4G-ready network which will enable us to offer our customers cutting-edge technology and the best mobile data and voice service experience.”

The agreement covers a five-year investment cycle and an eight-year maintenance period, and the upgrade is scheduled to be completed by the first half of 2015.

No financial details have been disclosed.
