Huawei appoints Kenya CEO

Chinese equipment vendor Huawei has appointed Dean Yu as CEO of its Kenyan operations.

With more than 12 years experience in the telecoms industry, Yu previously served as deputy CEO of Huawei in South Africa.

The company has said that Yu will be responsible for day-to-day business operations and will be focussing on the creation of opportunities for Huawei technology in the local market.

"Part of the new CEO's mandate will be to ensure that Huawei delivers ICT products and solutions to telecommunication operators, enterprises and end users in Kenya," the firm said.

Yu said that he intends to drive the company's three core business sectors: carrier, enterprise and consumer to the local market.

"Kenya's ICT industry is set to experience exponential growth. It's therefore an exciting time for me to spearhead our business efforts here for greater value," Yu said.

In September 2013, AMS-IX announced plans to build a regional internet exchange hub in the country.
