Netflix and Comcast agree content delivery deal

US internet television network Netflix has made a deal with cable operator Comcast for improved internet services.

Netflix has agreed on more direct access to Comcast broadband, which will improve the quality of its video streaming. Netflix users have reported that the quality of the video was poor at prime viewing times which were affecting subscriptions.

"The companies have established a more direct connection between Netflix and Comcast, similar to other networks, that's already delivering an even better user experience to consumers, while also allowing for future growth in Netflix traffic," Comcast said in a statement.

Google and Facebook have also paid Comcast for content-delivery network access.

The statement further said that Netflix “receives no preferential network treatment” under the terms of the contract.

The length, sum and terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The move follows the news that Comcast is to acquire Time Warner Cable (TWC) in a $45 billion deal. The cable operator plans to submit its application for its proposed takeover to telecoms regulator the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) by the end of March this year.
