Entel selects Huawei for Peru 4G roll-out

South American operator Entel has selected Chinese vendor Huawei to build its LTE network across Peru.

The move follows the acquisition of a 4G spectrum license in July 2013 by the operator’s affiliate Nextel Perú.

The network will cover the majority of the country and aims to reach all of Nextel Perú’s subscribers.

Huawei will provide over 10,000 sets of its Active Antenna Unit (AAU) solution for highly integrated radio units and multi-band antenna products.

“The AAU solution is another Huawei solution that effectively reduces site complexity and enhances network capacity,” said Ying Weimin, GSM/UMTS/LTE product line president for Huawei’s wireless networking business unit.

The network will be the first large-scale commercial deployment of Huawei’s AAU solution in South America.

Movistar, the mobile subsidiary of Spanish operator Telefónica, was the first company to launch 4G services in Peru in January of this year.
