Cyan announces solution upgrades

US vendor Cyan is upgrading two of its solutions, expected to be available at the end of this year's first quarter.

In an effort to keep up with the market, which is rapidly heading towards 100G, Cyan is enhancing its Z-series packet-optical system and Blue Planet SDN platform.

The upgrades will deliver greater network scale, flexibility and service automation, according to Cyan, to enable network transformation.

The packet-optical transport platform upgrade will help operators simplify the transition to 100G and 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) in metro networks.

"We have greatly enhanced the 100G capability of the platform; we are now offering 100G carrier Ethernet capabilities," Kevin Wade, director of product marketing at Cyan told Capacity.

The upgrade to the packet optical platform also includes a 10x10G to 100G muxponder module, which replaces Cyan's 100G transponder, allowing operators to multiply a 10G flow to a 100G flow for transport across the network.

Improvements also include two ROADM modules supporting up to 96 100G wavelengths on a single fibre, which will increase fibre capacity and efficiency in metro core and regional networks.

At the same time, Cyan announced that the SDN and NFV orchestration platform – Blue Planet – is now offering its first open northbound API, allowing northbound systems to connect to the platform.

Wade added that Cyan plans to launch more API's in the future.
