Amdocs launches SON solution

Service provider Amdocs has launched its self-optimising networks (SON) solution, designed to automate the optimisation of radio access networks (RANs).

The solution is expected to help mobile service providers to manage heterogeneous networks (HetNets) and exploit network capacity as mobile network traffic increases worldwide.

"Given the complexity and scale required from solutions to support increasingly sophisticated and active mobile data users, vastly improved network optimisation is essential," said Tim McElligott, senior consulting analyst at Stratecast. "Automating the process is an important component for optimising the network, and by extending the customer experience into the network... operators can also maximise network value."

Amdocs' SON has been deployed by several global service providers to help better their network performance, including TIM Brasil, which will use the solution in a select number of Brazilian cities during the FIFA World Cup this year.

"Delivering the right experience to the right customer at the right time is the ultimate goal for mobile operators," McElligott added.

The solution is able to support 2G, 3G and LTE services and is offered with a range of services to streamline the integration and management process.

"Amdocs SON, the flagship offering of our new Amdocs Network Solutions business, reflects our expanded focus on the network software domain," said Rebecca Prudhomme, VP of product and solutions marketing at Amdocs.

In November last year Amdocs acquired Celcite Management Solutions, in a move designed to expand the company's presence in the network software market.
