STC launches LTE-A network in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Telecommunications Company (STC) has reportedly launched an LTE-A network in its home country.

It is thought to be the first operator in the region to do so and STC’s LTE-A network is expected to provide customers with double the speed of its existing 4G network.

Khaled Al-Biyari, SVP of technology and operations at STC Group, said that the enhanced network is designed to enrich customer experience and consolidate the company’s leadership in the Saudi Arabian market.

“We have been working with our technology partners in the world market to spread and improve the present 4G services in the local market, in order to deliver the best features to service the company’s customers,” Al-Biyari said.

“The introduction of this service will directly contribute to enhancing and increasing the existing 4G – LTE-TD.”

STC rolled out its LTE network early last year and the company expects the LTE-A service to double its capacity and allow for increased coverage across the country.

Earlier this month, STC renewed its managed services contract with NSN.
