Windstream signs fibre deal with DoD

Communications and technology solutions provider Windstream has won a $1.6 million contract to provide fibre connections to three US military bases.

The five year agreement with the US Department of Defence (DoD) will provide 2.5Gbps of connectivity to Fort Sill, the Air Force Base in Oklahoma and Kelly Field Annex in Texas.

"With Windstream's recent award of a $12 million federal contract to supply voice, data and internet services over its national fiber network to the department of veterans affairs, we continue to make strides in serving the communications needs of government agencies," said Brent Whittington, CEO of Windstream.

Windstream acquired approximately 100,000 miles of fibre through its purchase of telco PAETEC for $2.3 billion in 2011. The acquisition enhanced the firm’s position in the US, creating a nationwide network.
