3 Ireland to launch 4G services

Hutchison Whampoa subsidiary 3 Ireland has announced that its 4G services will go live next week, on January 27.

Its 4G network will offer over 60% coverage in the cities of Galway, Limerick and Waterford and 40% in Dublin and Cork.

With Vodafone and Meteor launching their LTE services before Christmas, 3 Ireland is the third Irish operator to launch 4G.

Hutchison’s Irish subsidiary is in the process of acquiring Telefónica’s O2 Ireland for a reported $1 billion (€780 million). The deal is still subject to regulatory approval.
