NSN delivers 4G for TELE Greenland

Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) has completed construction of an LTE network for TELE Greenland, to deliver the first 4G service in the country.

TELE Greenland is Greenland’s only telecoms operator and NSN signed a partnership with the company last year for the implementation of a 4G LTE network.

NSN deployed the network on top of TELE’s existing GSM and 3G networks and the complete solution includes radio access equipment and core network elements.

Jonas Hasselriis, head of engineering at TELE Greenland, said: “We are excited about the unparalleled services and experience that LTE introduces to the market and how it significantly improves customers’ lives.”

TELE Greenland customers in the country’s capital of Nuuk – which has an estimated population of over 15,000 – are now expected to be able to experience ultra-fast mobile broadband services.

“We teamed up with NSN to offer fast, on-the-go internet connectivity and high-quality mobile broadband to our customers because NSN has proven experience in LTE and a strong commitment to the technology,” Hasselriis added.

The deal, which spans five years, also includes the delivery of NSN’s evolved packet core (EPC) platform, as well as monitoring, management and operation of the 4G network by the vendor.

Peter Edbom, account manager at NSN, added: “TELE Greenland has been our trusted customer for over a decade... when we introduce our latest technologies to improve the existing network; we are helping TELE Greenland deliver superior mobile broadband with the highest data rates and shortest latency times possible.”
