MTN Zambia launches country’s first 4G network

MTN Zambia has become the first provider in Zambia to deploy a commercial LTE network in the country.

The service will cover Lusaka, Kitwe, Ndola and Livingstone and the company plans to extend the network in the future.

“The service offers almost triple the speed of any existing mobile connection available commercially in Zambia,” said Abdul Ismail, MTN Zambia CEO.

Zambia joins six other countries in the region that already have live LTE networks: South Africa, Zimbabwe, Angola, Namibia, Mauritius and Uganda.

Experts say that LTE networks will expand significantly on the African continent this year.
