Alcatel-Lucent to deliver IP backhaul solution for PEG Bandwidth

French vendor Alcatel-Lucent has signed an agreement with PEG Bandwidth, to allow the wireless infrastructure provider to expand its service to 4G LTE operators in rural areas of the US.

Alcatel-Lucent will deploy its portfolio of IP/MPLS mobile backhaul solutions to enable PEG Bandwidth to bridge the urban-digital divide across ten mid-Atlantic and north eastern states.

“The Alcatel-Lucent platform allows PEG Bandwidth to not only offer the Carrier Ethernet services our wireless operator customers want and need to efficiently run their networks. [We are] now well positioned to leverage our fibre network to offer high-bandwidth Ethernet services to traditional carriers and enterprises,” said Rich Ruben, CEO at PEG Bandwidth.

Alcatel’s solutions include traffic management and service monitoring and are expected to ensure high quality and maximum backhaul performance for PEG’s network expansion.

Charles Marsh, president of Alcatel-Lucent’s Americas region, said that for small and large businesses, access to ultra-broadband speeds – for the support of applications necessary to function – is becoming increasingly important.

“Our mobile backhaul technology is enabling PEG Bandwidth to bring high-bandwidth services to areas where it has not previously been available, and improving the level of network access will have a significant economic impact in the rural markets PEG Bandwidth is addressing,” Marsh said.

PEG’s network expansion will span 1,500 cell sites across ten states and 6,000 route miles of fibre, and is expected to bring the company’s US fibre network to a total of 13,000 route miles.

Earlier this week Alcatel-Lucent announced a partnership with Colombian operator Lazus, for the deployment of metro networks in nine cities across the country.
