NSN partners with Ooredoo Myanmar for 3G roll-out

Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) has partnered with Ooredoo Myanmar to support the launch of 3G services in the country in 2014.

Under the two-year agreement, NSN will be the Qatari telecoms giant Ooredoo’s key supplier for its radio and core equipment services for the 3G network.

"People can use Ooredoo's services next year. We need to build quickly, not only in cities but also in rural areas," said Ross Cormack, CEO at Ooredoo Myanmar. “We are confident of NSN’s capabilities to help deliver our vision of becoming the service provider-of-choice across Myanmar.”

Earlier this year, Myanmar government opened up the telecom sector for foreign investment. In June Ooredoo won bids for 15-year 3G licenses, along with Norway's Telenor.

Telenor is also in the process of finalising its roll-out in Myanmar.

The licences were the first to be awarded by Myanmar, and will see the two international firms enter a market once dominated by two state companies.
