KDDI awards LTE contract to Ericsson

Japan’s KDDI has selected Ericsson as one of its prime vendors for the deployment of its LTE network.

The Swedish vendor will deliver an LTE radio access network, as well as the evolved packet core, to the Japanese operator.

This is the first time the two companies have partnered for the implementation of a radio access network.

“Ericsson has been collaborating closely with KDDI to demonstrate the value of our globally recognised LTE solution,” said Jan Signell, head of the north east Asia region at Ericsson.

“We firmly believe that KDDI's subscribers will benefit from the superior user experience and time to market of new technology that our global LTE solution provides.”

As well as the physical infrastructure, Ericsson will also provide related services, such as network roll-out and systems integration.

In February this year, Ericsson was selected by another Japanese operator, SoftBank, for its evolved packet core upgrade.
