M2M alliance launches global connectivity solution

The M2M World Alliance, which includes Tier 1 carriers Etisalat, KPN, NTT DOCOMO, Rogers, SingTel, Telefonica, Telstra and VimpelCom, has launched a global connectivity solution.

The solution offers companies in-market rates for connectivity throughout the alliance coverage area, which has operations in over 60 markets. The solution is said to also offer easier compliance with local market regulations and the potential for multinationals to provide global technical support from a single market.

It is aimed at simplifying and promoting the adoption of M2M communications worldwide.

“The alliance’s global footprint presents multinational organisations with a seamless approach to deploying connected devices in multiple countries at one time,” said Angel David Garcia Barrio, chairman of the M2M World Alliance.

Major growth areas identified by the alliance for its global solution include connected cars, fleet management, smart meters, consumer electronics, game consoles, wearable electronics, telehealth and security solutions.

The alliance was formed in July 2012 to explore ways to collaborate across their M2M businesses. In February, it demonstrated the technical capability to enable a single worldwide SIM card and announced the addition of UAE carrier Etisalat to the fold. It recently rebranded under the name M2M World Alliance.
