Telenor Global Services launches LTE roaming exchange

Telenor Global Services has launched an LTE roaming exchange service into the market.

The service is designed to serve as an official LTE exchange gateway for the Telenor Group, with the company claiming it will provide high-quality roaming services to customers,.

It is based on diameter signaling protocol, which is an IP-based authentication, authorisation and accounting protocol that is used for LTE networks.

The service will run from a single gateway between all Telenor mobile operations and LTE networks worldwide. It will work through a single connection from Telenor’s Global IPX network to the LTE Roaming Exchange, and service providers will be able to quickly and easily deliver global LTE roaming.

As an extension to the LTE roaming solution, the company’s IPX network is designed to provide the foundation for mobile service providers to efficiently launch applications and cater to end-user need while travelling.

“For mobile subscribers, this means that they will have a seamless LTE roaming experience – which enables them to enjoy the same high levels of LTE speed and reliability abroad as at home,” said Bjørn Iversen, CEO of Telenor Global Services. “We are proud of being in the midst of helping people to get the full benefit of being connected.”

Telenor Global Services is now ready to receive commercial traffic from Telenor Norway, in addition to four peering partners, the first customers connected to the LTE network.
