Türk Telekom replaces CEO

Türk Telekom has appointed Rami Aslan as CEO of the company, to replace Hakam Kanafani.

Kanafani has been CEO of the company since 2010 and board member Aslan will become the third person to occupy the position at Türk Telekom since its privatisation in 2008.

A statement from the company confirmed that Kanafani would remain on the board of directors.

Mohammed Hariri, chairman of the board at the company, said: “Hakam Kanafani has led the strategy and set a vision for the company that enabled Türk Telekom Group to grow and create value.”

Tahsin Yilmaz and Mustafa Uysal – GM and CFO of the company, respectively – are to serve as advisors to Aslan, and Hariri expects the new leadership structure to help the company become more efficient.

“I have full confidence that Rami Aslan, whom I have worked closely with since the privatisation of Türk Telekom, will build on the success he achieved across our group, in order to continue the value creation at Türk Telekom Group with world-class and innovative solutions,” Hariri said.

Fomer Citigroup banker Aslan has held a number of senior-level positions during his career, including that of CEO at Oger Telecom in Dubai, which holds a 55% stake in Türk Telekom.

In November this year, the Turkish operator signed a strategic partnership with CDN provider Akamai for the deployment of an Operator Content Delivery Network (OCDN) in Turkey.
