Akamai continues expansion of EMEA operations

Content delivery specialist Akamai Technologies has announced three appointments to its EMEA management team, in a bid to support increasing levels of business in the region.

Akamai Technologies opened an EMEA headquarters in Addlestone, UK, in October this year, as part of a wider European expansion drive.

Mark Weeks has been appointed regional VP service providers, EMEA, leaving behind his position as general manager for global banking & financial markets at BT global services.

Weeks has also held senior roles at Canadian equipment manufacturer Nortel Networks and computer networking company Shiva Europe.

John Dillon has been appointed as Akamai’s new VP of marketing in the region. Dillon joined Akamai from Rightster, where he was VP of product and marketing.

Prior to this he held the position of VP of marketing for Alcatel Lucent’s Software and Services portfolios. Dillon also served as CMO for Velocix, a specialist provider of digital content delivery network (CDN) solutions.

In addition, Anita Athwal has been appointed as senior HR director, EMEA. She brings over 20 years of experience in human resources to the role, from time at previous employers including Monitise, Morse Group, Technetix, BAA, Alcatel Telecom, Nortel Networks, EDS and Cornhill Insurance.

“With the opening of our new EMEA headquarters in the UK, these appointments mark a significant boost for increasing Akamai’s profile and sales in this region,” said Mark Vargo, SVP and GM EMEA at the company. “I am very excited about having this new team on board and to work with them as we look forward to 2014 and beyond.”

The developments complement Akamai’s new offices in Israel, Germany and Belgium.
