T-Systems employs an estimated 29,000 workers and the company confirmed that it would cut between 4,000 and 6,000 jobs over the next three years.
Senior management at the company is reportedly dissatisfied with its profit margins and the first cuts are expected to be put forward to the supervisory board on December 12.
T-Systems did not reveal figures, but said that the cuts are designed to cut costs as the company works to restructure its finances.
Union workers have retaliated to the news with claims that they will fight for their positions.
Lothar Schröder, from the public-sector union Verdi, told local reporters: “If the company is serious about the job cuts, we'll certainly not play along.”
Earlier this year, Vodafone’s German arm also announced significant jobs cuts in the country in a bid to make its business ‘fit for the future’.
