UK-based pay-TV provider Sky has selected Colt Technology Services as one of its carrier partners for the delivery of global call termination services. Colt began to carry voice traffic for Sky in May 2013, and is now responsible for the delivery of millions of minutes per month. [read more]

 

Telstra Global has announced it will deliver additional capacity on the UNITY cable route by adding new 100Gbps submarine cable technology. UNITY serves as a key trans-pacific route for Telstra Global to service customers in and out of the Asia-Pacific region, and forms one of the core routes for its transmission and IP backbone worldwide. China Mobile has conducted a demonstration of international HD voice and video calls between China Mobile’s VoLTE trial networks in Chengdu and Hangzhou, in partnership with Huawei. The companies have already implemented a VoLTE network in South Korea, and China Mobile VP Li Zhengmao held a special meeting to demonstrate the world’s first international VoLTE call from South Korea to TD-LTE and FDD LTE networks in China. BT has announced a new phase of investment in Asia-Pacific, Turkey, the Middle East and Africa in a bid to tap into expansion in high-growth markets. The company said it had hired more people in the regions and launched more competitive capabilities across a large number of countries, to deliver a differentiated service experience. [read more]

 

Spanish telco Jazz Telecom (Jazztel) and Huawei are claiming the construction of the first 400G-IP backbone network in western Europe. Jazztel will deploy Huawei’s NE5000E 400G core router in order to upgrade capacity and improve network efficiency on its IP backbone networks. The move aims to provide a greater range of services for fixed-network users in Spain. [read more]

 

Irish data centre provider Citadel100 has joined the METRO2C Alliance, a group of European data centre operators, internet exchanges and connectivity providers designed to support the new wave of online media companies investing in Ireland. Citadel100 is part of the Keppel Group’s Securus Data Centre Property Fund, which owns data centres in Ireland, the UK, the Netherlands, Singapore, Malaysia and Australia. [read more]

NTT Communications and Spanish fibre-optic specialist ONO have signed an agreement to enhance the services and capabilities of both operators across the globe. NTT will deliver its IP transit services to ONO, which will benefit from the high performance and speed of the company’s global IP network. [read more]



 

Djibouti Data Center (DDC) has signed a partnership with datamena which aims to enhance connectivity between Dubai and east Africa. The move is said to enable customers to interconnect between Africa, the UAE and the wider Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) region, improving redundancy and increasing cost efficiency between the two regions. Indian operator Bharti Airtel has floated a request for proposal (RFP) to upgrade its 3G network in the country. Airtel stated that the network should be compliant in both the 1800MHz and 900MHz bands. Sources told a local newspaper that this compliance is a result of uncertainty on the refarming policy of its existing licences in these bands, and Airtel wants to keep its options open. [read more]
