Jazztel will deploy Huawei’s NE5000E 400G core router in order to upgrade capacity and improve network efficiency on its IP backbone networks. The move aims to provide a greater range of services for fixed-network users in Spain.
“Burgeoning mobile bandwidth services and video services are spurring the growth of backbone network traffic and present an opportunity for the 400G technology in the lab to make its debut on a live network," said Gai Gang, president of Huawei Carrier IP Product Line.
"After years of comprehensive research on operators' needs for network reconstruction, Huawei is now playing a leading role in 400G platform design.”
The core router claims to optimise network architecture and reduce the bandwidth cost of each bit. It is also said to allow subcards to be removed and reinstalled, supporting flexible combinations of 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GE), 40GE, and 10GE boards.
Jazztel and Huawei’s business relationship dates back to 2005, when the operator selected Huawei to deploy its NGN network, the first of its kind in Spain. In 2009, the two companies entered a managed services agreement, which saw Huawei become the sole provider of services for the management of Jazztel’s network.
As well as promoting the commercial viability of its 400G solution, the move further reinforces Huawei’s position in Europe, where the company has made considerable strides in 2013 following its controversial exit from the US market.
