Türk Telekom and Akamai to launch Turkish CDN

Türk Telekom and Akamai announced at a press conference in London today that they have signed a strategic partnership for the deployment of an Operator Content Delivery Network (OCDN) in Turkey.

Cloud service provider Akamai and the Turkish communications company will jointly build and manage a high-capacity CDN in Turkey, designed to allow for the high-quality delivery of online content and video.

The partnership will optimise Türk Telekom’s internet infrastructure in the country and ensure a significant increase in speed and performance for mobile and broadband users via Akamai’s Aura Network Solutions.

“Türk Telekom... continues to invest in new technologies... and our collaboration with Akamai is one of the key steps we have taken in this area,” Tahsin Yilmaz, CEO at Türk Telekom, said at the press conference this morning.

“Akamai is one of the largest providers of content delivery and cloud services in the world and by providing faster access to popular rich media content within Turkey, both companies will ensure a highly efficient and top-performing user experience to all of the stakeholders in the industry.”

Yilmaz confirmed that Türk Telekom would offer cost-effective solutions to all players in the internet sector, as well as allow Turkish media organisations to deliver the same high quality of content to customers outside of the country.

Türk Telekom is one of a select few partners with Akamai – alongside KT and AT&T – and Tom Leighton, CEO at Akamai, expects the partnership to bring innovative services to an important and growing internet market.

“[Our solutions] enable Türk Telekom to offer compelling new services and address consumer demand for online content and video in a manner that drives revenue opportunities, provides a superior user experience, manages network costs and simplifies video distribution,” Leighton said.
