Uninor CEO resigns

Yogesh Malik, CEO of Indian mobile operator Uninor, has resigned from his position after less than a year in the role.

Uninor, the Indian arm of Norway’s Telenor, appointed Malik to the role in May this year, but the CEO has now resigned from his position for personal reasons, the company said in a statement yesterday.

“The company has already started the process of selecting a new CEO to take up the position,” the statement read.

“In the interim, as a temporary measure, Sigve Brekke, head of Telenor Group’s Asia operations, will also take up the position of the acting CEO of the company.”

Malik joined Uninor in 2011 and prior to that, held various positions at AT&T, Tata Communications and Ericsson ADR.

"Malik has made important contributions towards the development of Uninor for the last three years,” Brekke told local reporters.

“I thank Malik for his contribution to the company and wish him the best in his future endeavours.”
