Telstra Global and China Telecom expand connectivity into mainland China

Australian operator Telstra Global has struck an agreement with China Telecom to expand its network connectivity into mainland China.

Telstra Global said it has expanded its IP-VPN network into China, with additional connections in Beijing, Guangzhou and Shanghai.

It will also connect to China Telecom’s CN2 converged network architecture in the country, with the development further indicating Telstra Global’s commitment to increasing its presence across Asia.

Bernadette Noujaim Baldwin, head of connectivity and platforms portfolio at Telstra Global, said such collaborations to domestic companies are vital to Chinese expansion.

“With the Chinese telecoms space highly regulated, it’s crucial we optimise existing partnerships with local incumbents like China Telecom to support businesses operating in and from China’s economic hubs,” she said.

The company said it will provide local support to customers in Telstra’s offices in three cities, in partnership with China Telecom. It has also recently secured an operating licence in Taiwan, in addition to expanding its reach into India and the US.
