Zain Kuwait is to roll out LTE-A services in specific areas across Kuwait, in a move designed to develop its enterprise division. According to local reports, Zain Kuwait’s CEO Omar Saud Al-Omar said the deployment of LTE-A will be more targeted compared to the company’s launch of LTE, which presently covers 95% of the country. Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) has signed a deal with E-Plus to protect the German mobile operator’s LTE network from security threats. NSN will reportedly deploy its 3GPP-compliant security solution across E-Plus’s 4G LTE network, to prevent unauthorised access and manipulation and ensure a safe mobile broadband experience for E-Plus customers. Telefónica Global Solutions has deployed Ciena’s 100G coherent optical transport technology on the operator’s SAm-1 submarine and terrestrial network. The company has deployed Ciena’s 100G coherent optical processors to support the 25,000km submarine cable, which delivers over 2Tbps of data traffic daily, in addition to transporting over 20 billion international voice minutes a year.
